The Mirage
About
The Mirage was Steve Wynn's groundbreaking masterpiece that forever changed Las Vegas when it opened on November 22, 1989. Costing $630 million to build, it was the first megaresort on the Strip and ushered in the modern era of Las Vegas as a world-class destination. The Mirage was famous for its iconic volcano attraction that erupted nightly on Las Vegas Boulevard, its tropical atrium lobby filled with palm trees and exotic flowers, and the Secret Garden featuring Siegfried & Roy's white tigers and dolphins. The resort hosted legendary entertainment including Cirque du Soleil's Beatles LOVE, Siegfried & Roy's magic show, and Danny Gans. After 35 years of operation, The Mirage closed on July 17, 2024, after being sold to Hard Rock International, which plans to build a guitar-shaped Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on the site opening around 2027.
